Electrochemical storage is undoubtedly one of the relevant levers to provide greater flexibility to our electricity system and allow higher percentages of renewable energy penetration. The challenges that the development of battery-based storage must face derive from the current structure of electricity markets, regulatory challenges, technological and economic challenges.
The aim of the thesis is (1) to analyze the state of the art of electrochemical solutions on the market, exploring in particular (1a) the equipment and tests for performance analysis and (1b) the future national and international trajectories for their development; (2) to carry out technical-economic feasibility studies and scenario analysis in order to design an ex-novo laboratory for battery measurements.
The student will benefit from synergies with LEAP – Laboratorio Energia e Ambiente Piacenza, already active on several projects on the topic.
