The environmental impact of social events, such as large music festivals, is an important issue in the search for sustainable solutions to reduce man’s burden on the environment, in term of waste production and resources consumption.

The thesis project will start from a critical review of the state of the art regarding the evaluation criteria and consolidated methodologies adopted to assess the environmental sustainability of social events, in particular, of musical festivals. It will then move to an inventory of the festival input and output flows and an investigation of possible improvements of their environmental impact assessment, thanks also to an ongoing collaboration between LEAP and the organizers of a musical festival held for 8 years in the Piacenza area. The resulting methodology will then be applied to aforementioned case study.

The student will benefit from synergies with LEAP – Laboratorio Energia e Ambiente Piacenza, already active on several projects on the topic.
